What kind of bridal dress would you want?

What kind of bridal dress would you want?

Not every bride wants to scream “bridal” – if you’re the kind of gal who shudders at the thought of a traditional wedding dress fear not. It’s no longer taboo to be the alternative bride – ironically alternative is getting a little more main stream in that those who wish to break from the norm are encouraged and saluted for doing so.

Sarah Christopher - Stylist and Author of Juno & Joy discusses alternative wedding dress style and how you can get the look.

Style Queen Olivia Palermo displayed such bravery with her wedding attire choice. By choosing Carolina Hererra seperates that were more in keeping with her day-to-day style; high quality luxe fabrics, classically cut and flattering-of-form she looked the best possible version of her own iconic style. Tailored shorts underneath a sheer ballerina length skirt and a form-fitting jumper with scooped neckline…not typically bridal but oh-so Miss P!

And just days later Fearne Cotton followed up with her own take on wedding day fashions – a feminine ankle-grazing gown by Pucci (can you even imagine her in full length?!) with an attention grabbing, embellished statement neckline – the perfect choice for a directional fashionista.

So you’re the bride-to-be who only ever wears trousers? Don’t ditch them on the big day then – embrace your daily staple and find a beautifully cut pair you’ve only ever dreamed of owning; or if you don’t want the hassle of having to pair it with the perfect top why not opt for a jumpsuit instead? Bridal designers have caught on and many offer incredibly feminine, wedding inspired versions…

And for those who want a wedding gown but don’t want to feel like they’re playing “dress-up” there are so many options out there now. Bridal separates (very Carrie Bradshaw) tea length and above-the-knee have all become popular choices or if you simply loathe the idea of wearing white that’s fine too because coloured wedding gowns are also having a “moment”. From blush to grey, emerald to red there’s plenty on offer both in the high street and via designers – most notably iconic wedding dress designer such as Vera Wang are championing this very individual, very personal and very popular look.
