Zac Posen at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Red carpets are made for lovely designer dresses right? Well no, not anymore it seems as more and more celebs are swapping their glamorous frocks for tuxedos as androgynous style takes over. Zac Posen and Charlotte Ronson took them to the catwalk at New York Fashion Week and the look has a strong celebrity following.

Stars such as Angelina Jolie, Rachel Bilson, Katy Perry and Jennifer Aniston have been taking style inspiration from the fellas and Eva Longoria even opted to wear a tux to the Oscars, the dress event of the year!

Tuxedos work well with the current trend for exaggerated shoulders as they can come with shoulder pads, like Eva's or decorated shoulders can create a focus for the look.

The look can be just as sexy as a slinky dress as the jacket can be worn buttoned up low with a low cut top, or no top at all underneath.

Jennifer Aniston shocked on-lookers at the He's Just Not That Into You premiere when alongside her co-stars in pretty dresses she wore a cool Burberry tuxedo. Jen gave her tux a funky edge by teaming it with layers of gold necklaces. It can also take a feminine look, like Rachel Bilson modelled when she wore a pastel blue silk shirt with frilly neckline under the jacket.

If you don't want to try the full tuxedo mix things up by teaming the jacket with a t-shirt, wet-look leggings and heels, Lady GaGa style. A trilby will really complete the edgy look.
