Over the past couple of years our leather jackets have been our best friends. They look great with jeans and a tee and add an edge to a girly floral dress but it seems our faithful leathers are to be overtaken by the denim jacket as this season's number one cover up.
Gone are the days when it had to be stonewash or the trend when only dark blue would do, this season any shade of denim will work thanks to the current trends for both the 80s and the 90s.
The denim jacket is just as versatile as it's leather and blazer counterparts. It can be worn over floaty floral dresses, a la Nicole Richie, in the day time or even with a mini dress tights and heels at night, like Miquita Oliver. Avoid at all costs though wearing it with jeans or a denim skirt. Double denim is definitely a fashion no-no!
Celebrities like Rihanna and Miranda Kerr have worn their jackets cropped but Alexa Chung opted for a longer style, proving either will work.
Keep your denim simple though, diamante detail is tacky, not trendy and patches are an 80s throwback too far.
