Diane Von Furstenberg SS09

Crochet fabric might remind us of the table clothes our Gran is rather fond of but believe it or not the look is going to be big in Spring/Summer and the perfect look for the festival season.

Think less table clothes and more hippy-style taking your inspiration from the summer of love look used in Diane Von Furstenberg SS09 collection.

All over crochet might seem a bit risque, what with all those peepholes but an embroided hem or neckline can have just the right effect and give a subtle hint of flesh.

Layering is also a great way to touch on the look. While a crochet top could be way too revealing, layering it over a black vest or long boob tube takes it to super stylish. Molly Simms tried this trick at the opening of Armani's New York store during February's Fashion Week.

Crochet isn't just for clothing, a well placed accessory can give just the same effect such as crochet detail on a bag or hair clips, Cacharel even included crochet headbands at their SS09 show in Paris.

While cream and whites are great colours for the summer, crochet doesn't have to be plain. Think of Missoni's multi coloured knitted dresses and cardigans, they look great.

The best thing about this look is the intricate nature of the detail keeps all pieces looking unique and expensive, so invest now for a key piece to see you through the season.

Just remember to keep it to one crocheted piece per outfit, looking like an all over doily is not a good look!
