We all love a bit of embellishment on dresses but if the latest trend for 3D dresses takes off we could be getting our fix and then some.

Lady GaGa kick started the trend for 3D decoration on clothes with her collection of Thierry Mugler dresses with 3D diamond shapes on the skirt and shoulder. Fellow celebrities have caught on to this trend too, namely Cheryl Cole and Nicole Richie.

At the Brit Awards last month Cheryl wore a white Georges Chakra dress covered entirely in white flowers and Nicole was seen in a similar white dress with 3D origami design at the Zac Posen show at New York Fashion Week.

Even Barbie is a fan of this look! She took to the catwalk at New York Fashion Week in a gorgeous pink mini dress covered in 3D flowers and butterflies.

Project Runway winner Christian Siriano also used the technique on a one-shoulder brown dress where fabric was folded and curled into a £D rose effect from the shoulder down to the skirt.

Over in London Ashish embellished hats, skirts and tops in 3D pompoms in an array of different colours. He too used 3D flowers on collars and jumpers.

The best thing about this trend is you can do it yourself. Hit the haberdashery store and pick up some flowers, pompoms or whatever shape takes your fancy. Then take some clothes you already have and sew on the 3D shapes to get your own, unique, piece of this trend.
