It's the time of year when the fashion folk start to think ahead to spring whilst the rest of us are still in our bulky winter coats. With the rainy weather we are having at the moment, the high street is full to the brim with macs of all shapes and colours.

The mac is a wardrobe classic and has become a staple in England when the unpredicatable weather can be freezing one day then humid but wet the next. The mac fits perfectly alongside our winter coat in our wardrobe. When we have the freezing cold but dry mornings go for your winter coat but when its pouring down with rain opt for the mac.
The best mac to purchase is of a neutral colour so it fits in with all the items in your wardrobe. A classic stoney beige or pure black colour will make your mac more wearable. A classic coloured mac will never go out of date.
The mac doesn't need to neccessarily be on trend as it has always been a wardrobe classic. Audrey Hepburn's classic beige trench-style mac in Breakfast at Tiffany's is a perfect example.
The perfect length of a mac for wearability is knee-length. This length is perfect to be worn over either dresses or jeans and trousers. A cropped trench - style mac is a chic alternative when worn with jeans or trousers. Be careful to balance out a flared mac with slim fit trousers as you need to keep some structure to your outfit.
If you want to update the wardrobe classic this season then follow the bold colour trend for Spring/Summer, a mac in a bright red or blue would look chic teamed with the ever present nautical trend. A red mac teamed with a stripy black and white top and slim fit jeans is a great shopping outfit for the weekend. Ruffles and frills are also a trend this spring/summer - so a frilled or ruffled hem on a mac would keep you on trend.
The mac is a great item that will take you from the end of a cold winter right into the warmer days of spring
