Ribbon is the latest word in jewellery with designers including Lanvin and Marni ditching necklaces for charms on a length of ribbon.
It has a touch of the gothic look about it but if you use a luxurious fabric for the ribbon it can have a real designer feel. Make like Lanvin and use a longer piece of ribbon and wrap it around your neck a few times before tying it.
This trend is a great way to dress up your jewellery box at a credit crunch friendly price as you can take the charms off your old necklaces and replace the chain with ribbon which costs about 20p per metre. Extend the look to bracelets by threading a few charms onto ribbon and wrapping it around your wrist several times.
Use big charms to create a real statement but remember to go for a strong ribbon if you do. Stretched sagging fabric is not a good look!
We know it's all very Blue Peter-esque, making your own jewellery but if it's good enough for the designers, it's good enough for us! And after all we are in a recession now don't you know!
