Lanvin necklace, £529

Lanvin necklace, £529

Pearl jewellery is having a real fashion moment now after taking centre stage at Lanvin's spring/summer 09 catwalk shows they are now all over the high street and make a refreshing change from the long pendants we're used to weighing our necks down.

Pearls are very in keeping with this season's country heritage look but if you mix them with the trend for tweed and fake fur it could all look a bit too much.

You can wear pearls without looking like the Queen, it's just knowing how to do it.

Try long strands of beads, over a block colour top or dress. Multiple strands also keeps the jewellery looking young.

Pears on a length of ribbon also look great, or if you can find a necklace with bow detail as well this is perfect. Pearls do like best in traditional white or cream but they can work in silver too. Anything brighter than that will just look tacky.

If you're feeling a bit flush Net A Porter have this gorgeous Lanvin necklace for, £529.

If, like most of us you are feeling the pinch then head instead to Urban Outfitters and pick up this string of pearls for just £18.
