Feathers are taking over from sequins as the embellishment of choice on this season's party dresses.
Celebrities from Katherine Heigl to Nicole Kidman have strutted down catwalks in their feathered frocks. On paper a dress covered in feathers shouldn't work but these dresses manage to look classy and trendy at the same time.
So popular was Marchesa's mint green minidress that it has been worn by it's designer Georgina Chapman and the ever stylish Ugly Betty actress Becki Newton.
The light colour of the feathers means that these dresses flatter skin tones and there is a vast variety in designs with some celebrities going for full on feathers like Solange Knowles and some using them just as an accent.
Solange's minidresses mixes ruffles and feathers but the trends work well together and the puffball effect of the skirt emphasises the singer's long legs.
Mischa Barton established herself back on the fashion radar with this tiered feather dress. The sparkles in the dress are complemented by her silver accessories.
Unfortunately there's always one who gets it wrong and this time it's Madonna. She may be going through a divorce but that is no excuse for this green and black number.
The neck is to high for such a bulky fabric, a strapless cut would have looked much better. The green feathers look more like grass. On the plus side, we like her belt!
Feathers are most likely to be a one season wonder so why not embrace the feather trend now while it's here!
