Alexa: denim dress

Catwalks for S/S 09 were a wash of stonewash denim making a statement that the 80s are due for a revival.

But before you start digging out the leg warmers, check out our hints and tips on how to wear denim this Spring.

Designers, Mulberry and Chanel were showing denim in a more work-wear style than previous trends which mixed femininity and denim.

It has been a wardrobe staple for many years, but rather than denim as standard-issue jeans, the denim dress is on the fashion radar.

Fashion fan, Alexa Chung has been snapped wearing a simple denim shift dress with opaque tights and a plaid shirt.

This is a fantastic Spring outfit to add to your wardrobe, as it is perfect for the current unpredictable weather.

A denim dress can be worn for any occasion, and can be dressed up or down to transition from a casual day outfit to night time glamour.

The first dress is by Boutique at Topshop and is priced at £50.00 (top left). It features the must-have asymmetrical trend for Spring and is cinched in at the waist to emphasise the wearers shape.

The second dress also by Topshop is priced at £50.00 (top right). This dress has a fantastic cut-out detail on the back and can be worn with Alexa's stylish plaid shirt for an on-trend style this Spring.

Finally we have the Acid Wash Denim Zip Dress by Miss Selfridge, priced £45.00 (bottom). This dress features zip detail which is another key trend for S/S and is figure hugging to show off curves. This dress can be worn with a t-shirt underneath for a casual look and to keep warm. Lose the shirt and add heels and tights for night time.

The biggest hint when it comes to wearing denim is to ensure that the dress is statement piece. Try not to add to much colour and always stick to black tights, for an on-trend look this Spring.
