New trends come round every year and 2008 has been no exception. From shoulder pads to high-waisted trousers, everyone from designers to celebrities have been sporting the trends we're suppose to love.

As they trickle down from the catwalk to the high street, some trends have been huge this year and seemed to last much longer than the S/S and A/W constrictions of designer collections.

In the early months of 2008 waist belts appeared on the catwalks of Tommy Hilfiger and Oscar De La Renta. Since their Spring collections everyone has been sporting the fantastic waist cinching belt.

It's a great accessory to any outfit, by drawing attention to tiny waists and creating great silhouettes. Hero's star, Hayden Panterra has been a huge fan of this trend, as the belt creates great curves on her petite figure.

This has be one of the top trends of 2008 and is still really popular going into the festive party season.

When designers started showing wide-leg trousers in the place of skinny jeans, there was a sigh of relief from women everywhere. Designer, Diana Von Furstenburg was one of the many designers showcasing wide-leg trousers on the catwalk this year.

The trousers were popular for their elegant tailoring and came from the masculine/feminine trend of Spring 2008. Everyone from Keira Knightly to Victoria Beckham has been spotted this year wearing this must-have trend.

This trend is still popular of the high street, making it one of the top trends of 2008.

Footwear trends in 2008 has seen everything from patent platforms and stack heels, to Dior inspired gladiator heels. By far one of the most popular trends in footwear this year has to be the shoe boot, or the shoot!

They emerged on catwalks last year and since then have gone down a storm. Seen on Carrie and the girls in, Sex and the City: The Movie to the red carpet these fantastic lace-up shoes are still a fantastic addition to any outfit this festive season.

The ruffle trend has been mentioned a lot of FemaleFirst this year, and it has to be recognised as one of the best trends of 2008. The ruffle suits every shape and size and has appeared everywhere this year. From bags to blouses, no item of clothing has been safe from a ruffle or two.

Designer Luella made a beautiful coral pink ruffled dress, that has been worn by the likes of Alexa Chung and Agyness Deyn.

Finally, we have to mention the tailored jacket trend of 2008. Whether it was a pin stripe blazer or tuxedo jacket, tailoring was the must have look for this year.

This look is popular because its great for everyone, and it's a fashionable essential that anyone can try. Everyone from movie star Gwyneth Paltrow on the red carpet to Gossip Girl's, Blake Lively has made the most of trend.

The basic principle is the tailoring, but style and colour has been very varied this year. Pin stripes, block colour and tweed have all been popular.

With 2008 coming to an end, who knows what we'll all be wearing come 2009.
