Picking a coat for the new season is an important choice, you’re going to be wearing it most days, it’s most likely going to be your most expensive purchase and it’s the piece that everyone will see.
Choosing the right style for your body is vital and one that will last for years to come is important too.
We take a love at the top six winter coat styles that are right on trend for the new season.
1. Boyfriend
The boyfriend coat is a relaxed fit, which will keep you warm and cosy in the winter months. The loose fitting is perfect to layer over thick knits. Look to Richard Chai and Matthew Williamson for designer versions, but River Island and Topshop have some great options too. We love the tartan version from River Island with the leather sleeves and fur collar. Faux fur collars add luxury to this practical coat.
2. Military
A military coat is a style that will never be out of fashion, this coat forever makes the rounds in fashion and if you spend well on this design it will last you for years to come. Next have some beautiful options on the high street, if you’re spending more head to Moschino Cheap & Chic.
3. Double Texture
Matthew Williamson and Kenzo sent the best designer options down the catwalk, double texture coats are sleek and help you if you’re struggling to choose between materials. Leather details are the biggest material trend of the moment, they’re an easy way to wear the leather look if you don’t want one of the bigger pieces.
4. Minimalist
A minimalist coat will go with the majority of your wardrobe and looks super sleek. High end high street stores like Ted Baker, Reiss and Karen Millen have some beautiful option, and Calvin Klein and Elie Saab are the best for designer options. This coat will never date, so buy it in a classic colour like black, navy, grey or taupe so it goes with everything. Or add a pop of colour with a bright wool version.
5. Capes
Capes are a great evening coat to pair with your party outfit, Anna Sui and Marni showcased them during the Autumn/Winter 2012 collections and they’re still big on the high street. If you’re looking to combine two trends, Topshop have some great Khaki capes available.
6. Faux Fur
This luxe style is not a very appropriate winter coat when the wet weather hits, but this is another style that’s perfect for the party season. Blumarine and House of Holland have some of the best designer options.
