With the expected news that Kanye West is set to create his own clothing line, we take a little look at some of the celebrities that have taken the leap from their own industry into the unknown of the fashion world and beyond...
Jessica Simpson - The Jessica Simpson Collection
Making an absolute fortune as a designer, Jessica Simpson's career has been reborn since she stopped with the singing and the cheesy reality TV shows. Turns out the girl can actually design. She has even released a new children's line with her sister Ashlee. Though the clothes may be similar in trend to something you could pick up in most baby sections, they aren't half cute enough to be flying off the figurative shop shelves...
Nicole Richie - House of Harlow
Famous for being a socialite, her dad and wandering around the countryside acting a bit silly, Nicole Richie has come a long way since her party days with Paris Hilton and The Simple Life. Now, Miss Richie is married, with two children on her arm and a collection of clothes and sunglasses that are doing down a storm in Tinseltown. Seems she too, missed her calling.
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen - The Row
Adding to their already impressive TV and film career, the Olsen twins did the sensible Hollywood thing and decided to go into fashion designing. It's clear not only from their individual style but their line too, that the girls eat, breath and sleep fashion coming across in sheer quality. Though The Row may have plenty of celebrity and non-celebrity fans, we don't care what you say - $39,000 for a crocodile and python handbag is just too much!
Chloe Seveigny
An actress turned model turned designer, this girl knows her fashion. She is one of the most influencially stylish people on the planet. Having shown her fourth collection on the runway Miss Sevigny is getting used to being a star on and off the catwalk as well as on the red carpet. Her styles can be simple and stunning or edgy and classic, keeping fashion enthusiasts and commentators on their toes...one thing is for sure, we're all glad she took a leap of faith in the fashion talent pool!
Kate Moss for Topshop
If anyone has been around fashion to design fashion then Kate Moss is one such cookie. Having been involved in some of the most high profile fashion campaigns of the 90s and naughties, this girl knows how to spot a good and a bad trend. Her work with highstreet icon Topshop is highly regarded producing everything from gothic inspired evening wear to some classic vintage pieces. Though they may cost you a little more than you're used to, it's so worth it. When Kate Moss says it's good, you know it's good.
Victoria Beckham - Victoria Beckham
I think Victoria Beckham herself would be the first on the list to say she makes a better fashion designer than she ever did a popstar. Her part as one fifth of the biggest girl band ever The Spice Girls shot her to stardom, as has her high profile marriage to footballer David Beckham, but it has been her highly acclaimed work in the world of fashion that has earned respect and won over her critics who deemed her talentless. Elle MacPherson has called VB's dresses 'timeless', a compliment and a half from a runway model such as Elle. We love her edge, style and pencil dresses as much as the next person and sorry Vic, we'd much rather see you're latest collection of frilly dresses from your Victoria line than see you back in the studio any day.
Sienna Miller - Twenty8Twelve
Pretty actress turns fashion designer. We've seen it all before, but Sienna has made a good go of her work and you can tell she wants quality and style to eminate from her label with her sister. With perfect style sense herself, her label carries high expectations.
Lily Allen - Lucy in Disguise
Once upon a time she was the potty mouth of the pop world, now she's married, expecting and putting her fashion talents to good use through her collaboration with her sister. Lucy in Disguise is vintage inspired with some classy designs set to take off at a moments notice. Though there is specualation surrounding the new label, Lily insists that it's only expanding and not closing!
Justin Timberlake - William Rast
He's a fashion god but can he be the god of fashion? Few will deny Justin Timberlake has got the threads, but has he got what it takes to make it big style land? We love his Willaim Rast line, full of preppy, quirky designs that set the runway alive. That said, would they have gone down so well if there wasn't a celebrity name attached to the line?
Lauren Conrad - The Lauren Conrad Collection Paper Crown
After suffering a blow with her first collection The Lauren Conrad Collection never making it to production, we wondered whether the reality star LC would ever get the break in fashion she so desperately wanted. After watching her intern at TeenVogue and picking out some amazing outfits on screen and for events, Lauren Conrad is set to release her new venture Paper Crown in September. The look book is full of sweet designs that scream Conrad. If all else fails she still has her apparel with Kohl's and her beauty blog: TheBeautyDepartment to keep her fashion juices flowing...
