Dig out your miniskirts, headbands and boots, the sixties are back! A new survey by Stella Artois 4% has found that 39% of Brits today are feeling nostalgic and wishing for a return to swinging sixties. With the troubles of today, Brits want to be taken back to the sixties, the era of fun and style.
A massive 80% of Brits think the mini skirt was the staple wardrobe piece of the sixties, knee high boots came second with 45%, and hot pants followed at 38%.
Cultural anthropologist Jean Smith says, "The 1960âs are seen as a time of style and freedom, when youth and individuality were celebrated and the fashions reflected a decade of life, love and liberty. All of these trends are reflected in 2008 Britain, the likes of Duffy and George Clooney are seen as living examples of sixties retro, and their sharp, sassy style has encouraged a sixties fashion revival. Mini skirts and knee high boots are currently very on-trend on the high street.
In these difficult times it is likely that we are hankering for the golden years of the sixties."
Duffy was voted as the most popular current embodiment of sixties retro scoring 21%. Whilst over 30% of UK women felt George Clooney embodied the sixties. Unsurprisingly, The Beatles, were the most popular band of the sixties with an overwhelming 71%.
With it also been the decade of England winning the World Cup, is it any wonder we're yearning for that time machine?
