New Look Leggings, £14

Through their ability to re-invent themselves in a multitude of styles, leggings have stood the test of time, still hanging in our wardrobes several seasons after they first reappeared and with celebrities like Lady Gaga and Lindsay Lohan loving them leggings look to be safe for a while.

Since she burst on to the scene late last year, Lady GaGa is rarely seen out of her leggings and Lindsay loves them so much she has launched her own range of them.

At first they were part of a uniform, with smock dresses taking the lead role but with the many styles of leggings now available it seems now they can lead an outfit on their own.

Along with wet look leggings, thank you Sass & Bide, becoming a wardrobe staple, metallic gold and silver versions are also cropping up on the high street. Worn with a long plain t-shirt they lend a rock and roll edge to an otherwise simple outfit. New Look have some great pairs for just £14.

Les Chiffoniers £396 sequined leggings have also made the transition to the high street thanks to Boohoo who offer a sequin pair for £20.

The latest line of leggings to hit the store are trouser-leggings hybrids, treggings, which come with pockets. Get yours from Topshop for £35.
