As we near the end of 2008, FemaleFirst has taken a look back at some of the fashion highlights of the year. From feminine ruffles to goth making a come-back, 2008 has been a huge year in fashion.
Models, trends and celebrities have all made a big impact on the fashion scene, which has made fashion fans everywhere hit the high street hard. If this year is anything to go by, 2009 is set to be an even better year for fashion and the trends we love to follow. Here is the third installment of our A to Z of fashion:
K is for Knee-Length:
Designers, Chanel and Louis Vuitton showcased some knee length skirts in their A/W collections. Since then leaving a little more to the imagination with a knee-length skirt has been hot. Many of us were more than thankful to see a change from the dreaded mini. The knee-length is sexy, sophisticated and paired with high-heeled boots is a on trend look for 2008. Nicole Kidman always opts for below the knee, to complement her height.
L is for Leather:
Everything from jackets to leggings got a touch of leather this year. Feminine dresses and platform heels were complemented with sharp leather jackets. X-Factor judge, Cheryl Cole has been a huge fan of the leather trend this season. She's been spotted wearing leather jackets in the daytime and wet-look leggings on the red carpet.
M is for Military:
Military inspired coats with brass buttons and gold piping appeared everywhere in 2008. Waistcoats, dresses and suits all got a military twist too. LA IT-girl, Mischa Barton was snapped sporting a military style jacket and since then this trend has really taken off. Influences of this trend can still be found in detailing on dresses, bags and accessories.
N is for Nautical:
Shoes, handbags and purses were all at sea with this years nautical trend. Navy and red stripes appeared and buckles, ropes and ribbons became the perfect accessory for any outfit. Rope handles and porthole detailing were added to handbags and designers were showing crisp, clean and chic designs on the catwalk.
O is for One Strap Dresses:
This trend is still hotting up coming up to the Christmas party season. Asymmetrical dresses are big this season as they soften broad shoulders and led eyes up the body to the elegant detail. The trend started on catwalks earlier this year, by designers Balenciaga and Stella McCartney. It has also had a fair show on the red carpet with stars like Kate Hudson, Scarlett Johansson and Sex and the City's own, Carrie Bradshaw embracing the one strap dress trend in 2008.
