As we near the end of 2008, FemaleFirst has taken a look back at some of the fashion highlights of the year. From feminine ruffles to goth making a come-back, 2008 has been a huge year in fashion.
Models, trends and celebrities have all made a big impact on the fashion scene, which has made fashion fans everywhere hit the high street hard. If this year is anything to go by, 2009 is set to be an even better year for fashion and the trends we love to follow.
Here is the second instalment of our A to Z of fashion:
F is for Fringe Detail:
This hippy-esque trend has been enjoying a comeback for the latter part of 2008, giving everything a dose of rocker chic. Boots, bags and jackets are all embracing a fringe revival, after Gucci showed some gold-studded fringe detailed boots earlier this season. Young Hollywood is making the most of this trend, with the likes of Mischa Barton and Ashley Olsen spotted accessorising with fringe detail handbags and waistcoats.
G is for Goth:
The gothic trend has been a big highlight of 2008, with the likes of Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan showing off their dark side. Designers Chanel and Givenchy both showcased elements of it in their A/W collections, and since then the high street has turned gothic. The trend is gothic with glamour; ruffles and chiffon layers add a romantic and feminine appeal to the look. Even a small touch of lace would still bring any outfit up-to-date.
H is for Hosiery:
From patterned to opaque, tights have been making a huge statement in 2008. Linked in with the gothic trend, lace and patterned have become a much regarded extension of any fashionable outfit. Whilst, designers Luella and John Galliano have been using this seasons popular jewel-toned shades in block colours, on the catwalk to highlight this fantastic and functionable trend.
I is for Intricate detail:
Intricate embellishments, detailing and beading was a popular trend for hand bands, hats and clutches everywhere. Bejeweled handiwork made for some of the most standout and stylish accessories this season, with designers and celebrities alike making the most of this embellishment trend.
J is for Jumpsuits:
This was a tricky trend for a lot of us to follow, but the high street was inundated with replica's of jumpsuits seen on the catwalk by, Stella McCartney, DKNY and Vivienne Westwood. Everyone from Rihanna to Pixie Geldof were spotted wearing summers must-have trend of the jumpsuit.
