As we near the end of 2008, FemaleFirst has taken a look back at some of the fashion highlights of the year. From feminine ruffles to goth making a come-back, 2008 has been a huge year in fashion.
Models, trends and celebrities have all made a big impact on the fashion scene, which has made fashion fans everywhere hit the high street hard. If this year is anything to go by, 2009 is set to be an even better year for fashion and the trends we love to follow. Here is the first instalment of our A to Z of fashion:
A is for Agyness Deyn:
Whether it's her iconic pixie hair cut or her collaboration with designer Henry Holland, Agyness has become one of the hottest new stars of 2008. Her career started back in 2007, but 2008 has definitely been Agyness' year.
Her lastest campaigns with Jean Paul Gautier and Burberry have made her a house-hold name and a fashion icon. She was recently named one of seven people "Who Will Change Your Style". After her engagement to Strokes guitarist, Alber Hammond, Jr. in August, 2009 is set to be another great year for Agyness.
B is for Bows:
Blouses, dresses and bags have all been adorned with this years big trend of the bow. It may be a revive from the 80s but the bow has been huge this year.
Everyone from Katy Perry to Rihanna has been spotted wearing bows in the past few months. This trend has been one of the easiest to wear this season, from hair clips to dress accessories, bows are the perfect feminine touch to any outfit.
C is for Colour Blocking:
Designers, Diana Von Furstenburg and Marc Jacobs began showcasing this trend in their Spring collections and it has lasted right through the year.
Colour blocking has changed throughout the year with sunset shades appearing in the summer, to just hits of hot pink and orange teamed with black in the winter.
Everyone from Kate Bosworth to Reese Witherspoon have been snapped showing off this colourful 2008 trend. A touch of colour to any outfit makes this look bang on trend for 2008.
D is for Daisy Lowe:
The daughter of textile designer Pearle Lowe, Daisy has really made 2008 her year. She has modelled for Vivienne Westwood and has led campaigns for Dr. Marten's and Agent Provocateur.
The highlight of this year came when Karl Lagerfeld personally selected Daisy to model for Chanel. The next year will see Daisy replace Posh Spice herself, Victoria Beckham as the face of Marc Jacobs.
E is for Eco Fashion:
This year saw the first ever Ethical Fashion Awards take place, were designers and industry stars were recognised for their work within ethical fashion.
2008 has seen collaborations between some of big high street giants, like H&M and Topshop and eco-fashion organisations like People Tree.
Eco fashion is becoming a much bigger competitor on the high street, with there being much more than just organic cotton available to buy. With models like Lily Cole and Erin O'Connor adding support, this trend is set to be flying off the shelves in 2009.
