The fashion industry is ever changing, it moves at a remarkably fast rate its a wonder that anybody could keep up with it.
This week is the showcasing of Pre Fall 2011 collections, and we haven't even finished 2010 yet. With this constant change it means that the models chosen to present the clothing, to a waiting, salivating public, are constantly changing.
One season an androgynous look will work with the clean cut lines of the clothing and the next, you need a shapely woman with perfect curves to fill out the Betty Draper look, just look to this seasons Louis Vuitton.
We now have the age of the gap-toothed model
We now have the age of the gap-toothed model. Tanga Moreau has returned to modelling after a ten year break from the industry. During this time she raised her children and moved to Spain, where she still lives with her husband and two young sons.
She could not have picked a better time to return, with Lara Stone, Jessica Hart and Georgia May Jagger dominating runways, campaigns and editorials it is without a doubt the time for the gap-toothed lady and long may it reign.
Tanga Moreau, 32 was first spotted as she walked down the street at the innocent age of 16, she was reluctant at first when the photographer spotted her, but later decided to travel to London. Her first shoot was with a campaign for Moschino which was shot by Craig McDean, she later went out to work with renowned fashion photographers, Mario Testino, Steven Meisel and Bruce Weber. This was before she landed one of the most lucrative deals in fashion history an exclusive five year contract with Ralph Lauren.
Considerably known as one of the less flashy models, she only owns two pairs of high heels, a pair of Calvin Klein and a vintage pair. She told the Daily Telegraph: “I am very attached to my shoes for some reason. I use them till they are completely dead.”
This was the year that Lara Stone catapulted into a celebrity personality, as opposed to a lesser known high fashion model after she married British comedian David Walliams. The Dutch model was spotted age 15, when she entered the annual Elite Model Look competition, even though she did not win she was still signed. Even though the 26 year isn't the biggest fan of runway, because of her smaller than average (for a model) size feet, she finds the shoes always slipping off and more concentration going into panicking about not actually falling over. She has walked for Louis Vuitton, Lanivn, Fendi, Prada and Chanel to name but a few. She hit the headlines earlier his year when her provocative campaign for Calvin Klein Jeans was banned in Australia, not the first campaign by the fashion house to be banned but this was because they considered that it was glamorising rape and violence.
Another gap-toothed beauty is Johnny Depp's long time girlfriend and mother to his children Vanessa Paradis. She came into the public sphere aged 14 with her worldwide hit song 'Joe le taxi'. Since then she has become the darling of Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel fronting campaigns for their bags since 2004. She has also modelled for Miu Miu and earlier this year became the face of the new Chanel Coco Rouge lipstick.
Lindsay Wixson, new kid on the block has a pout to die for. Aged 16, the American beauty was spotted just last year and rose to success after Steven Meisel hand selected her for an Italian Vogue shoot, after noticing her on a video featured on models.com's Of the Minute. Since then she has become the face of Miu Miu, Jill Stuart and the Versace Vanita fragrance, which was shot by Craig McDean. Linsday opened the Prada Spring 2010 collection as a exclusive, meaning that she was not allowed to walk for any other designer during the season. This made her one of the most successful newcomers of the season.
Australian model Jessica Hart considered having her gap closed up before she started modelling, she says that sometimes she struggles with it as some designers are reluctant to sign her because of it. After being discovered at 15 in Melbourne she has since went to work on campaigns for Moschino, Guess and Victoria's Secret. The 24 year old managed to grace the pages of the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Another beauty compared to Brigitte Bardot and her infamous pout is Georgia May Jagger. With a genes from Jerry Hall it is no wonder that Georgia has now become a model. The youngest of Mick Jagger and Jerry does not want to spend all the time in front of the lens but is studying to become a photographer. The 18 year old has scored campaigns with Rimmel, Hudson Jeans, Versace and Chanel Resort and will no doubt have many more to come.
Let us hope that these fashion darlings are here to stay and no post-production touch ups are used on their straight, white and gapped teeth.
