Designer to the stars- Scott Henshall

With the staggering news that we wasted around £11.1billion on unworn clothes last year, celebrity style guru Scott Henshall has come to the rescue, with his savvy fashion tips on how to spend and splurge smartly during this recession.

In our exclusive video below, Scott, in partnership with climate charity Global Cool proves how you can look great in 2009, without spending a fortune on the latest catwalk looks.

Having dressed the likes of Angelina Jolie, Victoria Beckham and Paris Hilton, Scott is at the top of his fashionable game and who better to show us how to work the trends in a frugal way?

Scott shows us how to recreate four looks, using staple items from every women's wardrobe. Taking the classic little black dress, he livens it up by showing you how it can go from drab to fab in a matter of minutes.

He also shows how a simple office dress can be transformed into a glamorous evening outfit, and he makes a ordinary pair of jeans look runway worthy with his simple customising looks.

If you knitwear is looking a bit plain and dull these days, then simply spruce it up and personalise it, to make it unique to you. It's the simple little steps you can take, which will make a big difference to the way you view fashion.

Reducing the amount of clothes that you throw away and of course spending less will be much better for you in the long run, especially if the survey completed by Global Cool is anything to go by.

In their poll completed last year, they revealed that 3,500 UK women spent on average £470 on clothes that were never worn.

The findings showed that UK consumers were needlessly creating an estimated 8 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent each year, through the purchasing of clothes that never get worn.

This carbon footprint is greater than the annual residential emissions of Wales which has over 1.2 million homes.

With us all becoming much more aware and concerned about environmental concerns, largely thanks to the recession, it's now clearer than ever before we need to rethink some of our spending and how to be creative with clothes for less.

Over to you Scott!
