When it comes to shoes Christian Louboutin is the man. His red soled heels have graced the feet of many a celebrity from Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham to Tina Turner and Catherine Deneuve.
Louboutins have even overtaken Manolo Blahniks as the 'It Shoe' and were the most sought after shoe brand in 2008, according to a poll by he New York-based Luxury Institute.
The famed red soles came about accidentally though Louboutin confessed: "When the first prototype arrived, it had a big black sole. Dead!"
So he grabbed his assistantâs nail polish and began painting: "Immediately, the shoe came back to life."
He planned to change the sole each season but this did not happen: "But red is more than a colour. It is a symbol of love, of blood, of passion. Itâs like the handkerchief that an elegant woman dropped if she saw a man whom she was attracted to."
However with a recession looming us mere mortals cannot afford to be splashing a few hundred pounds on a pair of shoes, luckily for us Faith have come up with a solution.
Their Carbie shoe is a great high street version of Louboutins, with its bright pink sole. With a credit crunch friendly £50 price tag it may even be better than the real thing.
