A new style of boots made from plastic bags have been made by designer Camila Labra, the Daily Mail reports.
The Dacca Boots are named after Dhaka, the Bangladesh city which banned plastic bags in 2002. They are a result of 23 year old Camila's desire to extend the life of plastic bags.
Around eight bags are used to make each shoe, with a cotton lining.
Camilla came up with the idea when set the task of creating an item from unusual materials while studying design at Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago, Chile.
She told the Daily Mail: "I realised that there was a lot of plastic bags in my home and that everyone used them like a trash bag.
"I was sure you could do something more useful with them than that and then one day I saw people putting them on their feet to stop their shoes getting wet. It was then that I realised the bags would be great for making boots."
The boots were not meant to be put into production but when people kept asking her where they were from she decided to sell them
She said: "When I tell people that they are made from plastic bags they don't believe me.
"I think this is because they don't look like they've been made from plastic bags and they don't feel like plastic bags when you touch them."
The boots are sold for $45 on Camila's Botas Dacca website.
