Sale season is in full swing right now, and with it brings some new key trends for us a to keep a firm eye on. With this in mind, we'd like to introduce you to the latest big style for next year; Oriental Chic.
Oriental patterns and prints were big on the catwalks during New York and London Fashion week in September, and our fashion insiders say this trend is set to skyrocket come early spring.
Remember how big tartan was for this autumn? well we predict similar things for the oriental look, which could become the 'new florals' of SS09.
The key to working this trend is to use the Orient as your inspiration, but not as your full outfit, otherwise you will look overdone. Keep it light with some floral prints worked into a top, skirt or a dress and take it from there.
Basso & Brooke were spot on with their SS09 collection this year, infusing bright floral prints with an oriental twist and creating a range of suits, dresses, accessories and skirts. We were huge fans of their neon inspired take on the oriental look, and only hope the high-street replicate it soon!
Just Cavalli showed a more toned down version of Orient prints in his collection, using a neutral palette and mixing in elegant gold and peach floral designs, for a more regal and mature take on the trend.
Accessories too, are set to make a huge impact on the fashion world next season with Obi belts being shown at Marc Jacobs SS09 show in September. This signals the end for the trend of wide studded belts, but keep hold of your thin belts, as these will stick around for another season.
Kimonos teamed with obi belts were also shown at Jacobs' show, indicating that is may be time to ditch the cute crop jacket for next season.
Make sure that if you do invest in a Kimono, it has the ability to last more than one season, for example buy one with the basic outline of a trench coat and look for a print which is not too outlandish, so it can be worn each year.
