Rachel Roy's Barbie design
Life size Barbie dolls took to the catwalk on Saturday as designers created dresses to celebrate 50 years of the doll at New York Fashion Week.
Fifty dresses were created by the likes of Michael Kors, Badgley Mischka and Vera Wang.
The show was split into three sections, Decade Section, with lots of classic looks from the past, Faux Reality, with lots of girly pink looks, and future Barbie. Designs in the future section incorporating the space age theme that many autumn/winter collection are using including a metallic silver bubble shaped shift dress with transparent wing shapes on the shoulder.
Rachel Roy's design opened the show, a black and white sequined stripe swimsuit like the original doll wore in the late 1950s. Roy teamed it with a beige trench coat embellished with gems on the shoulders.
There was a lot of pink, obviously, this is Barbie after all! The girliest piece been a gorgeous pink strapless mini dress embellished with 3D pink flowers and butterflies.
Barbie bridal dresses came courtesy of Monique Lhuillier and, of course, Wang.
Kenneth Cole sent his Barbie down the catwalk with a Ken. She wore a T-shirt that read, "Everyone needs a Ken".
Christian Louboutin finalised the looks with a shoe he created for the event, patent pink peep toe heels with a skinny ankle strap. Barbie would love it!
