There was a time when sweat pants and oversized T-shirts were only fit for the gym and 'dress down' days at home, but now all the style rules have changed as sportswear goes glam this summer.

The catwalk was awash with sexy jersey and sheer basics this summer, which suggests we're going to really be glamming up our look not only for the gym, but when we head out with friends too.

Jeans have been replaced with leggings, oversized T-shirts and neon lycra have replaced simple vest tops, and battered white pumps are now more fashionable than the most expensive trainers on the market.

We're all being influenced by Fame this summer, as the 80s continues its fashion takeover on the high-street, and we for one are more than happy to oblige with this new trend.

It's all about putting together a 'just thrown on' look together, which of course has been carefully thought out and styled together to give that impression to the untrained fashion eye.

Don't fall into the old 80s cliches of trying to make leg warmers and headbands work together, as it will just make you look ridiculous, instead keep your style fresh and simple.

Pair a neon top underneath an oversized T-shirt or jumper and  pair simple black leggings, with white pumps. Complete the look with a slouchy bag, a pair of sunglasses (if it's hot), a chunky watch and knuckle duster ring.

Here's some of the best glam sportswear separates on the high-street at the moment...

Bodysuit, £35, Miss Selfridge; Plimsoles, £12, ASOS; Ring, £20, Oasis; Zip Jumper, £35, Warehouse; T-shirt, £16, Topshop; Watch, £50, Adidas.
