Cast your mind back to your childhood or early teens when jelly shoes were officially the hottest thing on the planet, and wearing them meant you were most definitely 'cool'.
Uncomfortable? sure, blister inducing? most definitely, worn with white socks? the trendiest thing you could do. So what the hell happened to make us fall so spectacularly out of love with these shoes?
Well, chances are we all grew out of it or they simply got eclipsed by a bigger fashion trend- we're tempted to say platform trainers, but that's another story altogether.
Vivienne Westwood has been hitting headlines recently for her plastic 'jelly' shoes, which have become the latest 'big thing' in fashion, so could it be that a new generation of jelly shoes are set to be reinvented/ born?
Our memory of jelly shoes is that they were made of cheap plastic, that made your feet sweat in the heat and they had ample amounts of glitter on them.
Westwood's interpretation couldn't be further from that image, as her plastic shoes are the epitome of quirky and cool glamour, and for a reduced price compared to her normal range.
They have already appeared on her SS09 Anglomania show and can be bought for £70, which granted is a lot for plastic shoes, but these ARE Vivienne Westwood after all.
Her cute, playful take on the fashion childhood favourite is set to be massive this summer as fashionistas hook on to a newer, more accessible version of the faithful jelly shoe.
