Turn your old jeans into new skirts

Turn your old jeans into new skirts

If you're in need of a new wardrobe but short on cash at the moment look no further than...your old wardrobe!

This season’s trend for the budding fashionista is customising and recycling to create a gorgeous, unique new look. You’d be surprised what a few customising techniques can do to bring your current wardrobe up-to-date.

Stylist to the stars Hannah Sandling has a few tips on how to update your wardrobe while being eco-friendly and recycling at the same time.

First have a rummage through your wardrobe and find some old favourites like jeans you haven’t worn for two years or last season’s maxi skirt and with a few quick snips and stitches, you can turn them into a sassy, bang on-trend mini-skirt.

To stand out from the crowd, head to your nearest charity store to pick up buttons, badges, ribbons or sequins and get customising. You will be amazed at what fab inexpensive items you can find at the charity shop to help you create the perfect outfit for the new season that won’t break the bank - even celebrities have been spotted in the thrift stores recently! Not only will this brighten up your item, but you can guarantee you won’t see any of your mates wearing the same thing as you!

Accessories are the key for pulling together the ultimate look. So add some bangles, chunky necklaces, a funky belt or some cool shoes to create your best outfit yet!

Don’t forget, you can also have a swapping session with friends and recreate, reuse and recycle - remember, one girl’s cast-offs could be another girls treasure - and think of all the money you can save to put towards a gorgeous new handbag!

Hannah’s top confidence and customising tips:

If you’ve got it then flaunt it, stick on some fake tan along with your favourite skirt and let your confidence shine.

Wearing a mini says something about you - it’s feminine and flirty which will give you maxi confidence for summer.

Whether you’re customising old jeans or a long denim skirt don’t be afraid of uneven hem lines - it will give the skirt a fashionable edge.

If you’re ever stuck for what to wear, the skirt and T-shirt combo guarantees a stylishly, effortless, confident ‘n’ cool look.

If you’re tall, minis look great with flat gladiator sandals that tie up round the ankle.
