Shoulder pads have been highlighted as a big trend for this season but at January's Haute Couture designers such as Chanel and Christian Lacroix shoulders were less 80s power dressing and more detailed.
Lacroix used frilly lace detail on separate shoulders while Chanel went for monochrome blunt rectangular shape going straight across under the neck.
At Avalon Vega shoulders were exaggerated and poofy with a real feminine feel, almost like butterfly wings, in pastel shades.
As this trend inevitably transcends to the high street the take will be pared down, after all we can't hit the pub in full on ball gowns or floor length velvet skirts, but it can work.
Go for sheer shirts with poofy shoulders and wear with skinny trousers, to streamline your shape. For a dressier look try dresses with frilly straps or jewelled detail which draws attention to shoulders.
This is not a look for everybody, broad shouldered girls will be counting the days till this trend has had it's day, but it sure makes a change of drawing attention to boobs or legs!
