We touched on this trend earlier this year but thought, and hoped, it would be a strictly catwalk look, however with the high street picking up on the style, it looks like harem pants are here to stay.
Ralph Lauren, DKNY, Jeremy Laing and Yves Saint Laurent all embraced the trend on the catwalks but will it translate into everyday wear? We're not too sure.
Harem pants are similar to this season's peg leg trousers but with one major difference, a droopy crutch, sounds appealing doesn't it! How low the crotch hangs is up to you but it seems with some designers, we're talking to you and your floor skimming gussets YSL, it seems the lower the better.
On the plus side this style of trousers is great for disguising big thighs as the fabric in this area is baggy and the fact it tapers down to a slim ankle gives a streamlined effect.
Harem style shorts are even popping up on the high street, we're even more dubious about this style though as it just looks like a skirt sewn together in the middle, causing a nappy effect.
If you are going to try this trend heels are a must to keep your calves looking slim. Also make sure whatever you wear on the top half is fitted, baggy top plus baggy bottoms does not make for a flattering figure.
We're still not totally taken by this trend but who are we to argue with the likes of Ralph Lauren and DKNY? In a couple of months we might all be wearing it.
