Keeping up with the latest trends and styles is proving to be difficult for women, as only 19% reveal that they would class themselves as 'fashionable'.
The study, conducted by www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, polled 2,103 British women, aged 18-30, in order to discover more about their personal shopping habits and their thoughts on whether or not they considered themselves as stylish.
Respondents were initially asked if they followed the latest fashion trends, to which the majority, 54% said that they attempted to, while 31% said they only followed trends that interested them and 15% said they were ‘indifferent’ when it came to fashion.
Furthermore, respondents were asked if they regularly updated their wardrobes, to which 61% said that they did. When asked why, 62% said it was in an attempt to stay on top of the latest trends, whilst 13% claimed they grew bored of their clothing easily.
Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, had the following to say about the findings:
“As December is often a very fashionable month, filled to the brim with various Christmas parties, we were interested to find out whether or not British women considered themselves fashionable and the various lengths they go to update their style. Whilst the majority of respondents said they were interested in fashion and often changed their look and style to stay current, it came as a bit of a surprise to discover that only 19% of British women believed that they were truly fashionable and stylish.
“What is slightly troubling about the results is the fact that many respondents admitted that they went into debt to look good and, even worse, some said that they spent over £300 staying trendy. Spending your way into debt is never the answer and it is better to buy one or two on-trend pieces instead of buying an entire wardrobe full of clothes every season. The money spent on clothes could be put to better use, like savings and bills."
