As the festive season draws to a close it can be hard to maintain a sparkling spirit into the New Year. After over-indulging on Christmas treats and covering up in winter warmers we can be left in quite a pickle when it comes to our style, beauty and fitness regime. But it’s important to make sure you get your confidence back and keep the glamour going.
Golden Sparkle
Just because ‘official’ party season is over doesn’t mean you have to lose your sparkle! Gold is a big trend this year and paired with black can make a bold statement whilst looking sophisticated. Sequins are great for any night out - you don’t have to save them just for the Christmas Party. A sequinned clutch can add an extra dimension to any outfit and give it a glamorous feel.
Hair Flair
The winter months can take their toll on your hair. Tresses can get dried out and ends are usually in need of a freshen-up. For a revitalised look this New Year I recommend heading to Lockonego, A-List Chelsea Hair Salon (www.lockonego.com), for a much-needed cut. The talented team will get your hair into shape with expert styling techniques so you can transition into a style that is as on trend as your outfit and makeup. Treat yourself to a colour change with Paul Bingham, the salon’s colour expert, to ease your hair from cool winter tresses to a sexy summer swish.
Dresses to Fit
Dressing to flatter your body shape will make a huge difference to how you feel. It’s all about knowing what suits your body shape so you can enhance your best features and sport the season’s show-stopping trends in a flattering style that is unique to you. If you are lucky enough to be graced with hourglass curves, body con dresses are your best friend. Bold colours such as plum and red are hot at the moment as well as cut-out detailing. Apple-shaped ladies should go for dresses that enhance their natural assets. A V-neck will accentuate your bust and draw attention away from your tummy. Pear-shaped women should choose dresses with detailing at the top to draw the eye upwards from your hips. If you have a boyish shape, the peplum dress is not only this season’s must have but yours too! The structured flounce will create the illusion of curves and an hourglass silhouette to rival that of Kim Kardashian.
Styles to Suit
Everyone can find a trend to suit, the key is to know how to best work your proportions. Fur is big for Autumn/Winter and can look great on anyone when worn in the right way. Boyish and pear shaped figures can rock a fur gilet which will add shape and balance to your silhouette - especially when belted. I like this cosy number from Topshop (£55). Apple shapes should avoid the gilet as it will add bulk to your top half and give the illusion of being bigger than you actually are. Instead, try a fur trimmed jacket or boots. These are ideal for adding a touch of trend to an outfit which suits your shape. Leather has made a comeback this season too, with leather panels being huge. Hourglass ladies with a cinched waist should choose a fitted top or dress with leather panelling to add a sexy edge to an outfit.
Get Fit
We all have a bit of bulge that we’d like to shift after Christmas and it’s common knowledge that a healthy balanced diet with some regular exercise is key to keeping in shape. In addition drinking lots of water means your skin will radiate as the water flushes your system of toxins in the blood. Increasing your exercise regime will help you lose weight by burning calories to shift any extra pounds you are carrying. Try something a bit different like Ballet Butt n’ Barre at The Laboratory Spa & Health Club. The workout has been designed by professional dancer and fitness instructor Carly Newson and incorporates ballet moves, core exercises and butt and leg exercises. Our bodies also need nutrients from all the food groups if we are to function properly. Eat a wide variety of all types of fresh foods rather than cutting out one or more of the food groups completely.
