For every fashionista there is always something new on next season’s 'must have' list, so this winter, look no further than Stockholm – whose residents are leaders when it comes to dressing up warm whilst staying stylish.
The fashion capital is packed with young and established designers flying the flag for what we should be wearing this winter.
Step forward Hope, Filippa K, Lindex and Acne who have shared their tips of how they stay stylish in the cold months as well as revealing their favourite cool but cosy Stockholm hangouts.
First place to escape the cold and shop ‘till you drop’ is the renowned Nordiska Kompaniet - the most luxurious department store in Stockholm, a must stop destination for every fashionista. This lavish shopping paradise, housed within a beautiful period building dating back to the 1900’s, stocks designer brands as well as Swedish staples; Acne, Filippa K, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Hope and Whyred. Pick up the ‘Goodman Coat’ by Hope - layers make the jacket extremely warm to wander the city in, as well as being effortlessly
stylish. Add a pair of pistol boots by Acne and a Filippa K scarf and you’ve got A/W 12 nailed.
Ann Ringstrand, the Creative Director of Hope, the contemporary design house, suggests visiting Vasaparken for ice-skating in the centre of the city or Hagaparken just north of the capital for a true winter wonderland experience. Warm up afterwards with ‘Fika’ at Xoco at Rörstrandsgatan, famous for chocolates and cakes and completely worth the calories. For savoury palettes, Toast Skagen (shrimps on toast) is a Swedish classic, which can be found at The Saluhall of Östermalms - the city’s oldest market established over 130 years ago.
The designers at Lindex, the cool, edgy fashion label which recently collaborated with Missoni and featured Gwyneth Paltrow as the face of their Spring/Summer 12 campaign, suggests picking up a mohair knitted jumper in pastel colours from their range, accessorising with chunky jewellery and then heading out to Avec Pontus Wine Bar, located in Skeppsbron. The wine bar serves an array of wines by the glass and is a hot spot for Stockholm’s fashion elite.
Head out in the evening, wearing a Filippa K light down mini jacket which can be worn under a winter coat and go to Restaurant AG, a buzzy, lively restaurant serving the best meat dishes in town, or to experience a modern Swedish encounter then Lux restaurant at Lilla Essingen is the
place to go. The menu is mainly organic and locally sourced and the tasting menu comes highly recommended by the Hope team. For a more decedent menu, Filippa K recommends Teatergrillen in Nybrogatan. The décor is both contemporary and romantic and the memorable menu includes reindeer steak with morel cream and salmon with a lemon crème - a perfect hearty winter warmer.
