As we enter a new decade, the Teenies, I believe it is to be called, and we leave the Noughties behind, we take a look back over the biggest things to happen in fashion.
High Street collaborations
The biggest question is, who is going to be next? When you've had all time greats, like Karl Lagerfeld, Jimmy Choo and Alber Elbaz creating lines for High Street stores, you can only wonder how they will top that? How quickly will the next one sell out? And how much money can be raised selling the coveted items on Ebay?
It's not just designer/high-street collaborations that have proved a hit, but celebrity ranges have proved popular too. The most likely being Kate Moss for Topshop, the successful range lasted seven years and after 14 collections, Kate Moss hung up her little suede, fringed booties at the door. Rumours are rife that the next big one for Topshop is a collaboration with Cheryl Cole, after she was pictured with Sir Philip Green at the launch of her jewellery line, one can only hope.
Boho
Sienna Miller came on to the scene and set the fashion pages a light with this new style of dressing. It was easily thrown together, she had effortless, scrunched hair and comfortable, floaty skirts and dresses. All of this meant that we wanted to follow suit. I dare you to look in your wardrobe and not have a hint of boho in there, we all did. Even if it was just channelling the sixties and wearing the headband around your head, instead of on it or lifting out the cowboy boots that you hold on to in case you ever need them again. Who knows what fashion trends are around the corner?
Rise of Fashion Bloggers
The rise and popularity in blogs, has seen an instant and incredible rise in the number of fashion blogs, over the past decade we have added more and more blogs to our Google Readers, to gain other people's points of views on the clothes celebrities are wearing on and off the red carpet, designer collections and comments on anything else, really.
Fashion bloggers have not only made made money from the blogs, but turned them into a career and have gained fame as well. The likes of Susie Bubble and BryanBoy who are, each season invited to fashion week's around the globe. Teen sensation Tavi, who was just 13 when she broke out onto the fashion scene, her blog see's hundreds of thousands people visiting everyday to see what insight she has to give next on everything from fashion shoots, to art films. She has also lended a helping hand to the Mulleavy sister and their line, Rodarte.
Extreme shoes
The shoe that instantly comes to my mind is the Alexander McQueen Armadillo Boot. What about you? The 12 inch heel makes it a wonder how the models ever managed to walk down the runway, serious credit is due. Then we have the Antonio Beradi heelless shoes, yes again, how did people ever walk in them? With designers forever pushing the boundaries, of what's fashion and what's comfortable, everyone's feet breathed a sigh of relief when the kitten heel was brought back for the winter season.
WAG's
We may look back now and think, what on earth were they wearing? But there is no doubt about it that we all had a slight infatuation with the Wives and Girlfriends of the Football stars. We all remember the time that Alex Curran (Gerrard – Steven Gerrard's wife) went shopping in Liverpool in the bright yellow Juicy Couture tracksuit, with matching yellow boots and red, padded gilet. Not something to spark a fashion trend to say the least. But then there was WAG turned designer, Victoria Beckham, Queen V who reigned with her tacky extensions and close to orange fake tan. She managed to shock almost everyone when she went for the chop and spawned plenty of look-a-likes with the 'Pob'. Whilst most of the WAG's are more able at putting their fashion foot forward, nowadays, we still thrive when we see a newby on the block and they get lost in the money and designer clothes trap. Nobody wants to look like they've been chocked up by the Burberry Monster.
Internet shopping
So that's where are dinner hour and wage's went. Internet shopping is continuously on the up and when websites like, ASOS, Net-a-Porter and MyWardrobe.com came around we couldn't control the excitement, of having our fantasies shipped right to our front door. Long queues and stuffy shops were a thing of the past. Alas.
Cheryl Cole
For ten years we have watched the Geordie lass change before our eyes. Out went the chavvy tracksuits and straightened to within an inch of its life hair. In came the designer, chic, trendsetting woman, who made our hearts melt with them dimples. The Nation's Sweetheart without a doubt, we all wanted to give her a hug last year when rumours about Ashley's fidelity where questioned and when she caught malaria, whilst on holiday with friend Derek Hough.
The next decade promises that Cheryl Cole will rack up more hit singles, more best dressed prizes and hopefully fall in love again, we all hope anyway.
Rise and Fall of the IT bag
What happened? Where did they go? As the seasons went by, we lived for the news of which would be the bag of the season. Which bag would have hundreds of copies spawned? And would be pictured daily in the tabloids and magazines? All of a sudden they disappeared and we focused on other things, shoes, sunglasses, belts. There was no longer the Marc Jacobs Stam bag, that everyone lusted for, or the Chloe Paddington Bag, the ultimate IT bag. Bags turned classic, something that could be used season after season and they seem to get only better with age.
Primark
It's quite hard to believe the impact that this store has had on the British high street. The unbelievably cheap clothing, made a new outfit possible on a budget of £30. But the main selling point is the fact that you weren't buying frumpy, undesirable clothing. The designs are fashion forward and continuously prove to be on trend. Whether you buy your underwear, a pair of shoes or a new jacket, you can always guarantee a bargain from the ever faithful, Primark.
Femalefirst Taryn Davies
