Welcome to FemaleFirst's first instalment of the 2009 Fashion Forecast; here we'll be bringing you all the big trends, events and stylish celebs of the year, all broken down month by month.
The start of a New Year brings many things, including resolutions, new fashion looks and of course some hot new style icons in the making. Here's out forecast for the chilly month of Jan...
Well, to start us off the January sales cannot fail to be mentioned this month, as they are everywhere you look; on the high-street, online and even in designer boutiques.
As the economy is experiencing a major slump at the moment, retailers are upping their bargains and making sure you spend spend spend. As long as you go early, plan what you need and don't buy stupid things, we think a sales splurge is just what is needed as a pick me up.
Snow boots are set to become a must have this month as temperatures around the UK plummet even further. High heels are just not practical in this cold weather girls! We've already slipped a fair few times this week and invested in a pair of snug snow booties to drive and walk in, to avoid the fear of slipping over and getting a wet bum.
Kate Winslet will be stepping up her promotional tour for her new films; The Reader and Revolutionary Road and with that will come some fabulous red carpet fashion moments to drool over. We're almost certain she has a couple of other little wow factor dresses in her closet and by the end of this month will be hailed as a new style icon.
This month also sees the welcome return of Gossip Girl to our screens and a whole new host of fabulous fashion to dissect. Season two is expected to top the first in terms of new trends and style starlets and seeing as we have nothing remotely similar in the UK to take our inspiration from, Gossip Girl is the only show you need to concern yourself with this spring.
Celebrity Fitness DVDS are a go go this month, with people you've hardly heard of coming out of the woodwork to show off their new trim frames. Why does it make it into our fashion forecast? Well, said celebrities are usually flashing off their new bodies in either gorgeous couture or dodgy mini-skirts a few months later, making our 'Ones To Watch' or Fashion Court Pages' all the more interesting, that's why!
Floral Prints and Fringing will arrive on the high street, waving goodbye to winter and chunky knitwear. The SS09 shows seem like an age ago, so we're glad some new stock has finally hit the rails. Florals are a safe bet for spring, and this year will see a nice Oriental twist take precedent over pansy and ditzy prints.
Skins is also back on our screens this month and features a whole new host of delinquents to replace the likes of Tony and Sid, but thankfully they have retained one familiar face; Effy. She was a fashion fave of ours throughout series one and two, along with Cassie, so we expect the older, more crazy Effy to be our new style icon this month.
We'll also be ditching big clutch bags in favour of mini versions this month, and not only that but they have to have a bit of a quirk about them too. Globe, shell and fringed mini-bags are just some of the funky trends likely to take the handbag world by storm.
Nicola from Girls Aloud will become something of a style icon for this month, as her make-up range goes nationwide and as pale skin is a huge trend for this spring, her popularity is likely to soar along with it.
Paris Couture Week is upon us once again this month and will include an appearance from France's fashionable first lady, Carla Bruni. Couture Week is set to run from Monday, January the 26th to Wednesday, January the 28th and we're very excited to see what over-the-top glamour will surface this year from the French.
