Considering all the controversy surrounding Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, it was ironic that both were paired together on the last day of Milan Fashion Week to show their latest D&G and Giorgio Armani collections.
DSquared2 kicked things off nicely yesterday with a very young and vibrant collection, although it didn't quite hit the mark, as the show was somewhat mish mashed.
Mixing denim with old fashioned formal wear was a nice twist to their vision and worked well, as did the new low slung pants and baggy hipsters, which an appearance on the catwalk to great effect.
The confusion came from the following part of the show, where leather hunting vests were a focal point, before the designers veered back to showing formal wear, intertwined with some plaid flourishes.
Giorgio Armani returned to what he does best by showing the classic Armani suit, with slight subtle adjustments down the runway.
He remained faithful to his signature elements of comfort and luxury, by showing some beautiful tailored blazers, velvet drawstring pants and a nice selection of silk shirts all in muted, toned down colours.
D&G didn't disappoint with their collection either, displaying a range of classic dinner and smoking jackets in sumptuous colours and fabrics. They managed to bring the outdoors indoors with their host of cashmere jumpers and woollen blend jackets.
The military jacket was a key inspiration behind the collection, teamed with ripped jeans to achieve a stark contrast and the velvet blazers also added a touch of decadence to the show.
