The credit crunch means that we might not have the cash to splash on a new dress for the party season, but fear not you can update last season's look, you've just got to be brave.
The trend for prom style dresses have carried on into the autumn winter season. If you have a dress from last season with a nipped in waist you can transform this easily. Head to a dance store and pick up a cheap tutu or netted skirt, slip it under the dress and there you go!
Try to go for a not too poofy skirt to make the dress look natural. Add a belt or sash around the waist to give the dress more of a prom feel.
The asymmetrical look is also big news at the moment. If you are feeling really daring you can transform last year's old dress into a one shoulder wonder. Only do this if you are really confident with your sewing abilities though.
Cut one strap in half in the middle and then fold the edge and sew all the way along the neckline to keep it tidy.
Another idea is to sew a smattering of beads on the shoulder or edges of an old block colour dress. Embellishment has continued to stay strong this season.
Before you try out these tips it's best to practice on some old clothes though. You don't want to ruin your only outfit for the upcoming party!
