Get it right and it is the perfect blend of maturity, style and sex appeal, get it wrong and it can ruin a celebs image.
And there are a couple of cuts out there at the moment that aren't doing some of our fave girls any favours.
There are some ladies that were meant to rock the short hair look, some that can pull it off - but have to work at it and others that should have stuck to the lovely locks that were the envy of so many.
There are few that will disagree when we say that Frankie Sandford from girlband The Saturdays has the face and the look to pull of a pixie crop without having to worry.
Her signature lush and glam do with a sweeping side fringe is a popular look with celebs and fans alike with many hairdressers up and down the country hearing 'can I have it like Frankie from the Saturdays...' atleast once a week.
There was an air of breaking into freedom to Emma Watson chopping off her wavy locks after waving goodbye to the Harry Potter franchise. Though many were unsure of the look at first, the majority have come to like the look and accept that this is something Miss Watson needed to do.
There is no denying that it has added an element of maturity to her look as she's now a young woman and breaking away from the child actress many perceive her still to be.
Still this doesn't mean she gets it right all the time and proves that this is a hairstyle that has it's limitations with what you can wear.
For some celebrities it should be a crime for them to cut their hair and one such case is Vanessa Hudgens. This beauty had some serious hair envy going on but has since chopped the lot for a new film role.
Although the style is respectable enough it doesn't have the bounce and wow factor that so many loved. We're just looking forward to watching her growing it out a little and seeing what fun the High School Musical actress has with it.
There is no doubt that Pixie is a lovely looking girl and a Lott of this was down to those platinum blonde locks that framed her pretty face. We cannot say that we are keen on the new hair in her latest single All About Tonight. Where it has plenty of volume, it seems to sit too much like a lego bob on her head.
It would look nicer sitting a bit longer as it would still be a nice change from her previous look, with bounce and give Pixie the option of sporting some of the pretty plaits and festival looks we have come to love from the pop princess.
Yes, yes, we know that hair will grow back - but in the meantime we urge the next wave of celebs, before you go for the all out dramatic crop, just know that there are lots of us that would kill for those shiny locks of yours!
