With the Autumn fashion weeks almost upon us once again, we thought it was high time we looked back at the catwalk shows and collections which really made an impression on us this year.
Chanel's AW08 show was like watching a little girls dream come true; a huge carousal in the middle of the stage to play with. Karl Lagerfeld placed his models on the Carousal, but instead of undulating horses, he put handbags, shoes and Mademoiselle Chanel's signature hat on there instead.
We adored the Chanel suits and lose style shifts, teamed with some amazing two-tone tights, which we are still lusting after and finished off with cute Mary Janes.
Next up we have the amazing AW08 show at Burberry Prorsum, headed up by Christopher Bailey who gave us slouchy knitwear, crazy beanie hats and spiky clutch bags and shoes. They rounded the show off at the finale with an amazing display of falling autumn leaves, which left us feeling all warm and happy inside.
YSL AW08 kept it minimal and structured with all their models all sporting identical black bowl haircuts and black lipstick. Although it was very simple, it was also pretty effective, as the clothes really stood out against the stark background. Their SS09 show, however failed to make much of an impression on us with similar colourings and styles to their AW line.
Luella continues to bewitch us with her enchanting style, this time taking her inspiration from paganism and showcasing it with a gothic trend for her AW08 collection. We think she was one to the few designers to really run with the 'Goth' trend very early on. Her SS09 collection also impressed us with her candy coloured designs, bright prints and crazy headwear that she debuted in September.
Gareth Pugh's AW08 collection scared the hell out of us, but no doubt he got his vision across, albeit in a terrifying painted faces and mad hair kind of way. Despite this, we liked his collection as it was very accomplished and his tribal style rocked. So much so in fact, Beyonce was spotted in one of his designs last month, minus the blue lipstick and cheeks, as shown on the runway, of course.
House Of Holland was awash with bright colours on an otherwise very dark catwalk for his AW08 show. Where other designers went with the season and dressed their models accordingly, Holland's show was awash with Tartan suits, furry jackets and bright pop prints. His SS09 show was very similar in terms of colour and aesthetic, but he seems to have fallen in love with polkadots this season, as opposed to tartan; never a bad thing.
