This week we celebrate British Wool, and help to bring awareness to the local farmers and small businesses that produce the material so many of us wear.
We have picked out our favourite woollen pieces, now we have the tips to help you take care of it.
With around 35,000 tonnes of British wool being produced – by the 32 million sheep that reside here – now seems a good time to recognise its woolly goodness.
On behalf of Rowenta, we’ve got some handy tips to help keep your woollen garments looking their best.
Taking care of wool isn’t difficult:
- Always follow the washing instructions on the label – this may sound obvious but always check!
- Cleaning is the most important factor when it comes to preserving wool – dirt and smells can stick to wool therefore its important to properly clean garments however you only need to wash a wool sweater once or twice a season
- Some wool is washable as it might have been treated to prevent shrinking but if not then hand wash or use the handy Rowenta Steam Valet – which refreshes clothes and eliminates odours with no contact at all, providing a safe way to get your favourite woollen jumper fresh for the new season
- To store, ensure the wool items are kept in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight – the sun can cause colours to fade
- Keep items fresh from moths by brushing garments weekly and taking it out of the wardrobe and wearing in fresh air
- Never hang a wool sweater as it will stretch out of shape – fold away
