Burberry SS09
Despite Burberry been a high end designer label it's signature check print has more recently been associated with chavs and football hooligans, all with a penchant for baseball caps in the checked pattern but that could be about to change as the label took checks back to the catwalk.
The beige, red and black pattern was used by Burberry in both their menswear and womenswear shows this season. It appeared scarves and bags. The colour pallet was tweaked a bit with a grey/green shade replacing the beige on some bags but it was still as distinctive as ever.
The pattern was used less brazenly as in the past. There is none of the garish, in your face checked skirts or coats instead a flash is seen on the inside of fur scarves.
Christopher Bailey told Grazia about the design to bring the check back: "I sometimes describe Burberry as a beautiful diamond that was trodden into the ground a bit. My role wasn't to find a new diamond but to clean the facets of it until it sparkled again."
We wonder if Victoria Beckham will be bringing out her checked headscarf of yesteryear now that the check is back in fashion!
