Every so often we get wind of a crazy trend that just makes us smile, because we can't honestly envisage it catching on, and then the impossible happens- it does.

Step forward bra tops, which are to be worn on the outside of clothing and have been showcased in both the House of Holland SS09 show, and on the Nicole Farhi SS09 catwalk.

Now for many of us, the thought of baring our belly in something which is just a shorter, glorified version of the crop top scares us to death, so why even bother with this trend?

Well, for a start there are some great bra tops out there, which are more of a fashion statement than a standard bra. Floral and ditzy prints are set to be everywhere this spring, including lingerie.

If it's still making you quiver, then perhaps it's time to reveal the secret to pulling them off- it involves wearing a top underneath. Simple yet brilliant, and with Agyness Deyn and Jourdan Dunn already sporting the look, you know it's one that will catch on.

Invest in an array of colourful vest tops or T-shirts and set about finding your perfect bra to wear over it. Yes, you may get some funny looks initially, but hopefully if you pull it off, it will look part of the design.
