Welcome to a brand new feature here at FemaleFirst, where we pit two big designer names against each other, to see who comes out on top in the fashion stakes.
This week we're looking at celebrity favourite Balmain and up-and-coming fashion star, Alexander Wang, who both have a similar design style, but who will win the style crown?
Lets start with Balmain's credentials, as the Parisian fashion house has undoubtedly had one of it's best seasons to date, not to mention the fact that their AW09 collection was met with worldwide fashion praise.
Victoria Beckham, Beyonce and even Michael Jackson have been spotted rocking their exaggerated shoulder jacket recently, in addition to Gemma Arterton and Jennifer Connelly both sampling dresses straight off the catwalk late last year.
That's not to mention the amount of coverage Balmain got when they launched their £2000 jeans. Despite the hefty price tag, the designer togs were flying off the shelves in the UK when they landed earlier this year.
It seems that at the moment, the fashion house can do no wrong, so it will take a tough contender to take them on this summer. Enter Alexander Wang...

He has really blossomed this season and it seems his celeb fan base agree, as Lindsay Lohan, Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger have all been spotted in his rainbow bandage dress recently.
Aside from winning tutoring from the legendary Diane von Furstenberg, Wang's designs have a really fresh and contemporary edge to them, and we're totally in love with his grungy glam collection for the summer.
He's the king of colour blocking, has managed to make denim shirts fashionable and thanks to him, holey leggings are set to be the big thing this summer.
So what's the verdict? Well, it's a close one to call, but we think Balmain just has the fashion edge this week, as Balmania has undoubtedly taken over the world at the minute and people are going crazy for their designs!
