Balmain's £1,059 jeans
Back in January the Balmain's jeans, the most expensive in the UK, went on sale and despite the £1,059 price tag they were a hit flying off the shelves.
The light coloured jeans with ripped detail on the knee are one of the most in demand pieces from the label's SS09 collection and have proved popular with celebrities too as Kate Moss, Kylie Minogue and Heidi Klum are all fans.
Designer Christophe Decarnin justified the high price of the jeans saying it was necessary, to reflect the materials used and the quality.
While there is no denying the jeans are great, they have the stonewash colour which fits in with the current 80s trend and the distressed detail was a big trend on the Spring Summer catwalks, but splashing out that much cash for jeans seems ridiculous to us on a good day, let alone when we are in the midst of a recession.
Fortunately Topshop agree and have created their own, almost identical version for a mere £45! That is over twenty times cheaper than Balmain's version!
Light coloured denim? Check. Skinny fit? Check, Ripped detail on knee right now? Erm... it's on the left actually but we can get past that minor detail!
Throw on a silver skinny belt and military style jacket and no-one will ever know the difference!
