All this looking forward to the future and forecasting what will be fashionable next year has got us feeling nostalgic, and reminiscing about all those trends which were set for big things, only to almost disappear with out a trace.
Baby G watches were the coolest thing on the planet back in the late 1990s, along with platform trainers, Girl Power and mini backpacks. Yes, it was the era of the Spice Girls and anything they wore became instantly fashionable.
Baby Spice aka Emma Bunton made Baby G's ridiculously popular amongst kids in the playground, teenagers wanting to look cool and yes, even those in professional work were tempted by her cute fashion looks too.
The pink one was more in demand than any of the others, a clear homage to pink loving Emma of course. So why did we fall so out of love with Baby G, was it merely a blip or has that trend passed us by now?
Was it caused by the end of our love affair with the Spice Girls when they split up? or was it simply because we grew up and wanted a more 'classier' watch hanging off our wrist?
Baby G's are still on the market today, but we estimate they are not nearly as popular as they were in the Spices' heyday. Perhaps our perceptions of fashion have changed a lot from what they were like in the 1990s too.
We think the 00's are the most polished decade to date for fashion, combining the crazy with the outlandish like never before. Vintage and retro pieces are also at the forefront of fashion, which could signal the ideal time for Baby G to become a phenomenon once more.
A cool and quirky collaboration with House of Holland and Baby G would be a great twist on a classic design we think, and who better to steer that ship than the man of crazy colour and neon slogan T-shirts?
