Australian Fashion Week ended on Friday amid claims that organisers used ultra thin models.

According to reports, agencies were asked not to choose models that " would be considered to be unnaturally or extraordinarily thin, or suspected of having an eating disorder."

The skinny debate has become one of the fashion industry’s hottest topics after the death of Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston from anorexia last year.

Australian Fashion Week organiser Simon Lock told Reuters:" We don’t think the situation at this point requires rules in terms of regulating the appearance of models."

Madrid and Milan banned ultra thin models from their catwalk shows earlier this year.

Legendary designer Diane Von Furstenberg, President of the influential fashion council the CDFA called for a debate in the industry on the issue in February.
