Fashion Week might be long forgotten over here but in Australia Fashion Week is taking to the catwalks in Sydney this week.
While Australia may not be as well known for it's designers the country did bring us the uber-edgy label Sass & Bide and it's exports like model Miranda Kerr are always perfectly turned out so we wanted to see what down under had to offer in the fashion stakes.
Sass & Bide, those lovely people who brought us wet-look leggings, are not showing until Thursday but there are still several of big names to please us.
Australia is known for it's cool, laid-back, surfer style and this translates to the catwalk with edgy but wearable pieces.
Camilla and Marc kicked off Australia Fashion Week with a gorgeous metallic collection featuring gold, gold and more gold. Puffball skirts and denim cut-offs were teamed with funky tees and cute ankle boots.
The trend for exaggerated shoulders has hit Oz with dresses and jackets all featuring the detail. Structured bodycon dresses in blacks and golds gave the show some sex appeal but there were also glamorous floor length designs featuring, of course, one shoulder.
Antipodium broke the fashion rules by sending models down the catwalk in, shock horror, socks and sandals but eyes weren't on the models feet, more so the gorgeous floaty dresses they wore. Moving the asymmetric trend from the shoulder to the hem, dresses were longer at the back.
With a nod to the 80s Antipodium included denim shirts in their collection, tucked into high waisted, tight fit trousers, sounds wrong but looks oh so right.
The oriental trend was also touched on with an intricately embroided black jacket worn with denim cut-offs. There was also a touch of couture in the collection with fluted skirts like those seen at YSL's haute couture show back in January.
Accessories were long and supersized with one model wearing a pendant with an 'A' the size of her head attached.
One look we definitely won't be trying though is the baggy lace trousers, if even a model can't pull them off what hope is there for us.
We brought you Illionaire as one of our labels to watch earlier this year so we we're delighted to see their collection take to the catwalk.
Illionaire also went for gold, with a harem pant jumpsuit among the collection. Their marble style prints were given a tribal twist by using a darker colour pallet.
The collection was not for the faint hearted with cut-away swimsuits, crop tops and bodycon dresses, eek.
Illionaire took the supersized shoulder trend to casual clothing to giving checked lumber jacket shirts the exaggerated treatment.
While the whole collection looked great we particularly loved the huge pompom detail on the killer heels. Worth the air fare to Sydney surely?
