You might have thought that the Fashion Weeks were over now until September but you'd be wrong, this week sees the start of this years Alternative Fashion Week.

Taking place in Spitalfields Traders Market in London from April 20th to 24th, Alternative Fashion Week shows original collections from new designers, from all over the world, waiting to be discovered.

This year over seventy designers have been chosen from hundreds of applications to show their designs including some from Italy, Croatia, Sweden and the USA. The styles on show range from elegant to truly edgy.

A major theme to the Alternative Fashion Week is using original or recycled materials to create something different. Shows will have an emphasis on environmental awareness and ethical sourcing.

The week will certainly up to it's name if some of the attending designers are anything to go by. There is Andrew Bannister's STUDIO_805 label which is described as, "Men & womenswear, uber-masculine style in red and white + gaffer tape", Laura Booty creates glamorous dresses out of cherished possessions, discarded nick-knacks and unwanted.

And Robert Miller's delightfully named Pretty Pervy label will show, stylised women’s rubberwear with exaggerated silhouettes. We can't wait to see that!

If you prefer your fashion a bit more conventional though there is still something for you including an on trend colour block convention from Derby University and Salmena Carvalho's collection influenced by the bright colours of flowers, butterflies and the scenery of Goa, perfect for Summer.

We look forward to seeing which of these new labels will end up making it big.
