Being an Indie kid this summer is about as fashion forward as you can get, so we thought we'd take a look at where it all began, and how our style choices became influenced by the music of that period.
Indie Kids don't exactly have the best rep at the moment, especially among those followers who think they may have sold out in order to make it big, but one things for certain- they have an excellent sense of style.
Skinny jeans, thin ties and tight shirts are were all the rage when Indie music first came to the forefront, with bands like Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand all sampling the look.
It's not just restricted to the boys either, with celebs like Agyness Deyn and Alexa Chung moving into Indie fashion territory, thanks to their musical boyfriends.
Geeky oversized glasses, bright white pumps and checked shirts are just some of the looks they've sported over the years, which suggests no matter how critical some people are of the music, Indie fashion always has a place on the catwalk and high-street.
This summer's hottest trend samples some of the Indie looks too, so be prepared to be digging out your neon Raybans, investing in a studded belt and losing your muffin top to fit in those ludicrously skinny jeans.
Something which we've never really got on board with is the fact that blokes now champion skinny jeans, and the tighter they are the better as well! Hello, masculinity?!
The buttoned up cardigan and closed up shirt are also two looks we struggle to really get on board with, and when you've got a chav like Gavin from Gavin and Stacey getting in on the act, perhaps Indie fashion has become too commercialised, just like the music.
Then there's the notion that leggings have become acceptable amongst men, which in itself is just a crazy statement in our view, who the hell would look good in them?!
On lady Indies' on the other hand, wet look and plain leggings paired with an oversized print T-shirt, and denim jacket will be considered as the height of cool for the upcoming months.
We're loving the Ting Tings and their style at the minute too, as they rock Indie fashion in a more girly way making it more accessible to their many fans.
They also give us colour, which sometimes Indie fashion can be severely lacking in...we put it down to them trying to create that tortured artist look.
The Kills Alison Mosshart is one of the original Indie kids and continues to thrill us with her new take on the trend each season, showing that not all Indie fashion is one dimensional.
