Alexander McQueen is known for his outlandish collections: SS09

Now, not many things can shock us when it comes to the world of fashion, but Alexander McQueen managed to stun us to the very core with his collection for Paris Fashion Week yesterday.

Scary clown faces, exaggerated lips, ghostly white faces and elaborate headwear were the focal points of the collection, giving the fashion pack a thrill like never before.

We thought we'd found our favourite collection with Chanel yesterday, but Lagerfeld's genius was nothing compared to McQueen's crazy vision for AW09.

For a start, his stage was one of the more interestingly decorated this week, piling his catwalk props from the last 17 years in the middle of the room to be ogled at, was definitely the best way to get our attention.

The dark room, pumping music and eery atmosphere really built up McQueen's vision for this season and when his first model walked onto the runway, we knew we were in for something special, if a little creepy.

We'll be honest, the painted 'fish lips' on his models in red and black were seriously scary and freaked us out a tad, but you couldn't deny he wasn't being original with his vision.

We could have sworn he'd added false fangs to their teeth too, as when they strutted to the end of the catwalk, they posed in such a way, it forcibly reminded us of a zombie horror movie, albeit a very high-class, expensively-clothed zombie movie.

The collection itself was reportedly inspired by his own experiences in the fashion world, which he then dedicated to his mother. Aww, we're sure she would have been insanely proud of her son's collection, because it really was a triumph.

There were feathered gowns, exaggerated skirt suits, shiny black coats and billowing print blouses all combined with some amazing hats courtesy of Phillip Treacy.

McQueen essentially took simple wardrobe staples like a blouse and skirt and turned them on their unfashionable head, to make them more like a work of art.

Yes, they made our jaw drop, yes they were pretty crazy, but hey! this is Paris, designers always showcase some of the most visionary, if unwearable clothes here.

We'd be disapointed if all he did was shove a bin liner on a model and call that fashion now wouldn't we? Bring on the craziness for next season, we say!
