Though we may not appreciate the frost and disruption that inevitably comes with the winter months there is something exciting and romantic about getting away for the weekend to explore a different winter wonderland.
City break style should be chic, look effortless but remain classic and simple. The trick is not to pack as though you're going for a month. Stick to the staples we're about to show you and some well chosen accessories and all you're missing is the stylish overnight bag.
You cannot get much more city break chic than a good pair of chinos. They're versatile, stylish and can be easily made into a great evening outfit with minimal effort after a long day of exploring.
A beige or light brown pair will keep the tone warm and neutral. If you fancy a break from chinos stick a pair of black leggings in your luggage too - they too offer many ensemble options and are won't take up too much space in your bag.
Blouses are a must for classic chic looks. They are the perfect top half for chinos, can be found to fit your personal preference in style and look effortlessly stylish. Find some ruffles, interesting cuts and of course pussybow collars and you'll be teaming trend with travel.
Footwear is so important. Get it right and it will be the best trip you could hope for, get it wrong and you'll be looking after your blisters for the duration of your stay. Never underestimate a fashionable flat for daytime exploring such as a loafer or brogues.
They're simple and will go with most outfits - it's stylish and sensible, just in case the weather is not in your favour.
For evening wear you cannot get much more classy than a good court shoe. Maybe a conservative black or a Kate Middleton leg lengthening nude pair, sparkles, Mary-Jane straps - the list is endless. Just remember to plan well ahead of going so as to avoid the 'kitchen sink...' comment when the other half picks up your bag.
Whether it's a romantic getaway or a wild weekend with the girls, night out attire is required. When you're heading out in the cooler weather, reflect that in the colour you choose to wear. Black maybe boring but it's classic. Alternatives are purple, deep reds and rich oranges. Find a cute shawl to throw over you to keep the cold off too.
It's a good idea to go for a satchel or over-the-shoulder style bag as this is perfect for keeping your hands free for picture taking and hand holding. A tan colour would match the warm neutral tones suggested with the nude chinos and court shoes.
Other essentials...
Loose-weave knitwear...cute, sexy and comfortable
Oversized scarves & gloves...A couple of bright coloured scarves can make an outfit look completely different every time. They're also essential for keeping out the cold. A nice pair of leather gloves are a great way to add to that city chic.
Hat...depending on where you're going a beret, bobble or glam it up with a trilby
Coat/Blazer...depending on where you're going and what you're wearing a blazer maybe more appropriate. There are some great statement piece out there at the minute that are bright and rich in colour. If you're likely to free a good parker or leather jacket would be equally fashionable.
